"Shining of Time -Japanese Lacquer in Applied Art-" is a unique journey through the world of one of Japan's oldest and most refined crafts. The exhibition will present lacquer boxes, and other intricately decorated objects made using traditional urushi lacquer. The exhibits will include both masterpieces by old masters and works by contemporary artists, demonstrating the uninterrupted continuity of this art.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about various decorative styles and techniques, such as Maki-e (sprinkling metal powder), Raden (inlaying with mother-of-pearl), and Choshitsu (carving lacquer). The exhibition will combine collections from Polish public institutions and private collectors with works by Japanese artists, showcasing the richness and diversity of this extraordinary tradition.
