Shippu Dotou 漆風怒濤

by Kenta Takeshige

"Kyu-shitsu", which refers to all types of Urushi lacquer coating, is the origin of Wajima-nuri, which began with plain practical lacquerware, and is an honor for the skills that have been accumulated over a long period of time. On the other hand, with the modernization of crafts, it has been established as a unique method of expression and has undergone various developments. From our current location, which has accumulated a variety of histories and experiences across regions, we will take birds-eye view of the many works that are attracting attention, and thoroughly introduce the essential appeal of lacquer.
