"Current Lacquer Expression 2024 -A Look at Lacquer-"
The exhibition "Current Lacquer Expression 2024 -A Look at Lacquer-", which explores contemporary expressions in lacquer art, will be held at the Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Citizen Gallery A from Wednesday, October 23, 2024 to Sunday, November 3, 2024.
The "Current Lacquer Expression" exhibition, which focuses on artists who express themselves in a unique way that is not bound by traditional lacquer art, has been held three times in the past at Nihonbashi Takashimaya Art Gallery X with the cooperation of lacquer artist Tanaka Nobuyuki. This exhibition will be the exhibition that oversees current expression of lacquer art, and will further expand the diversity of lacquer art expressions by welcoming new artists in addition to the previous exhibitors. Furthermore, this exhibition will focus not only on the materials & techniques that tend to be focused on in traditional school, but also on the relationship between lacquer and the artist and the process of expression. By reconsidering what the artist is looking at through lacquer, we will present a new perspective on lacquer expression.

Symposium "Prospects for lacquer expression and lacquer art education at art universities"
In connection with this exhibition, a symposium "Prospects for lacquer expression and lacquer art education at art universities" will be held at the National Crafts Museum on Saturday, October 26th.
We will look back on the results of the three previous "Current State of Lacquer Expression" events and discuss the significance of contemporary lacquer art expression and its education. Panelists include artists, researchers, and educators active at the forefront of lacquer art, who will talk about the outlook for lacquer expression for the next generation.
